The Victorian government has allocated $1 million under its Made In Victoria Energy Technologies Manufacturing program to support local manufacturers in enhancing renewable energy production. The grants aim to empower businesses to invest in new equipment and technology, bolstering their ability to produce components essential for renewable energy systems, from solar to hydrogen.
Investing in a Sustainable Future
The initiative is part of Victoria’s broader strategy to achieve net-zero emissions by creating a robust domestic manufacturing base for renewable energy technologies.
Victorian Minister for Energy and Resources Lily D’Ambrosio emphasized the program’s role in transitioning towards a sustainable future. “These grants enable manufacturers to expand their operations and play a critical role in the renewable energy supply chain,” she stated.
Meanwhile, Victorian Minister for Jobs and Industry Natalie Hutchins highlighted the economic and employment benefits. “This funding supports some of the state’s most innovative manufacturers, driving economic growth and creating new jobs in the renewables sector,” she said.
Key Beneficiaries
Three companies at the forefront of renewable innovation have been selected to receive grants:
- Powerplus Energy: A leader in energy storage, the company plans to use the funds for facility upgrades to expand and automate lithium-ion battery manufacturing.
- CEO Bradley Paton underscored the grant’s importance, stating, “It strengthens our contribution to Victoria’s manufacturing infrastructure and positions us at the forefront of renewable technology production.”
- EnGy Limited: Specializing in graphene technologies, EnGy will scale up its production of graphene materials, which are crucial for advanced energy storage solutions.
- Cavendish Renewable Technology: Focused on hydrogen innovation, the company is working on a 250 kW anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyser stack. The stack uses cutting-edge C-cell electrolysis technology for industrial applications and ammonia fuel cells for converting green ammonia into electricity.
Expanding Capabilities
The grants are specifically designed to help manufacturers supply critical inputs for renewable energy technologies, including:
- Solar energy systems.
