Capcom has rolled out the first major update for Monster Hunter Wilds, bringing a host of new content, balance tweaks, and quality-of-life improvements. Just days after surpassing 10 million copies sold, the game is receiving fresh missions, a new social hub, and adjustments aimed at refining the overall experience.
New Monsters Join the Hunt
Hunters will have new challenges ahead as Capcom introduces two formidable creatures.
Mizutsune, the slippery Leviathan-class monster, is now available for players who reach Hunter Rank 21. Completing this quest unlocks additional assignments for hunting more Mizutsune. Once players hit Rank 41, a more dangerous variant—Tempered Mizutsune—becomes available, offering a tougher fight with greater rewards.
At Hunter Rank 50, a new high-rank monster, Zoa Shia, joins the roster. This beast, encountered at the end of the story campaign, now has its own dedicated hunt, providing endgame players with an extra layer of challenge.
The Grand Hub: A New Social Space
Capcom has introduced The Grand Hub, a bustling area where players can engage in various activities beyond hunting.
- Barrel Bowling and Arm Wrestling for fun downtime.
- A new canteen offering additional meal options.
- The Diva, a character who performs songs at night.
- Arena and Challenge Quest Counters for competitive hunts.
- A squad management system to help players organize teams more effectively.
Future seasonal events, including the Festival of Accord, will be centered in the Grand Hub, making it a crucial location for multiplayer interactions.
Arena and Challenge Quests Introduced
Two new types of missions will test hunters’ skills in different ways.
Arena Quests are speed-based challenges, rewarding players who defeat specific monsters in record time. Challenge Quests add further restrictions, requiring players to use designated equipment or battle within set conditions. Those looking for a more flexible option can take on Free Challenge Quests, which remove gear limitations.
Successful completion of these challenges grants pendants—cosmetic items for both players and their Seikret companions. Unlike decorations, these pendants do not affect stats or gameplay but offer aesthetic customization.
Major Equipment and Gameplay Adjustments
Capcom has fine-tuned multiple aspects of combat, armor progression, and overall player experience.
- Armor upgrade limits have been increased for Rarity 5 and higher gear.
- New weapons, armor sets, and skills have been introduced, though details on their abilities remain undisclosed.
- Wyverian Melding now requires more points, making rare decorations harder to obtain.
- Adjustments to ranged combat while riding Seikret, improving fluidity.
- The Corrupted Mantle’s effects have been tweaked, while Rocksteady, Mending, and Evasion Mantles have all been buffed.
- Specific weapon changes include:
- Lance: Smoother thrust combos after Focus Strikes.
- Hammer: Faster Focus Strikes when stopping mid-charge.
- Light Bowgun: Wyvernblast no longer reacts to Palico attacks.
- Bow: Dragon Piercer damage slightly decreased, while Thousand Dragons received a buff.
Bug Fixes and Quality-of-Life Changes
The update also brings a range of fixes to address lingering issues.
- Improved response times when interacting with NPCs.
- Adjustments to monster AI to prevent unintentional pauses.
- Fixed a bug where Jin Dahaad would disappear unexpectedly.
- Fixed unintended camera angles triggering for previously discovered monsters.
- Increased login bonus rewards, now including free meal vouchers and daily Barrel Bowling tickets.
- Added an option to change Alma’s outfit in the camp menu.
Future Content and Seasonal Events
With Monster Hunter Wilds continuing to grow, Capcom has set the stage for ongoing content updates.
The Festival of Accord, running from April 23 to May 6, will bring temporary changes to character outfits, decorations in the Grand Hub, and even a revised song list for The Diva.
While layered weapons are not part of this update, Capcom has confirmed that they remain in development for future patches. Additional monster hunts, seasonal events, and gameplay refinements are expected in the coming months.
