Mandy Moore Calls Out Amazon for Delivering Package to In-Laws’ Burned-Down Home

Mandy Moore had some strong words for Amazon after a package was left at the charred remains of her in-laws’ home, which was destroyed by the recent Los Angeles wildfires. The actress took to social media to call out the company’s lack of discretion, prompting a response from the retail giant.

A Delivery That Made No Sense

Imagine losing everything in a wildfire, only to have a package show up at what used to be your front door. That’s exactly what happened to Mandy Moore’s in-laws. The This Is Us star shared a photo on Instagram of an Amazon box sitting in the middle of the ruins of their home, calling out the company’s delivery practices.

“Can we not have better discretion than to leave a package at a residence that no longer exists? This is my mother and father-in-law’s home. Smh,” Moore, 40, wrote in her Instagram Story. The image showed nothing but rubble, with the unmistakable brown Amazon package sitting in the ashes.

It didn’t take long for the post to go viral, catching the attention of Amazon itself.

Amazon Responds, But Is It Enough?

Shortly after Moore’s post made the rounds online, Amazon issued a statement addressing the situation.

“We’ve reached out to Ms. Moore via Instagram to apologize for this and to ask for more information from her in-laws so we’re better able to investigate what happened here,” Amazon spokesperson Steve Kelly said in a statement obtained by Page Six.

He also mentioned that Amazon had previously instructed its delivery partners in Southern California to use caution when delivering in wildfire-affected areas. “For weeks, we’ve advised those who are delivering on our behalf in Southern California to use discretion in areas that were impacted by wildfires—especially if it involves delivering to a damaged home—that clearly didn’t happen here,” Kelly said.

That admission only added to the frustration. If the company had already set a policy, why was a package still delivered to an address that no longer existed?

Wildfires Have Upended Moore’s Family

Moore’s in-laws weren’t the only ones in her family affected by the devastating wildfires that tore through parts of Los Angeles in January.

  • Her brother-in-law Griffin Goldsmith and his wife also lost their home.
  • Moore herself suffered damage to her own residence in the Eaton Fire.
  • While the main structure of Moore’s house survived, it was left uninhabitable.

The destruction forced Moore, her husband Taylor Goldsmith, and their children to seek temporary shelter. Fortunately, their close friends Hilary Duff and Matthew Koma opened their doors and provided them with a place to stay.

A Bigger Problem Than One Package

While this particular delivery might seem like an isolated mistake, it highlights a bigger issue. Companies rely heavily on automated systems and GPS tracking, sometimes without considering real-world circumstances.

For people affected by natural disasters, receiving a package at a destroyed home isn’t just frustrating—it’s a reminder of everything they’ve lost. Even worse, it raises security concerns. If a package can still be delivered, does that mean their address is still active for billing, subscriptions, or even potential fraud?

A small mistake, maybe. But for those who’ve lost everything, it stings.

Celebrity Support and Ongoing Challenges

Moore’s famous friends have rallied around her and her family during this difficult time. In addition to opening their home, Duff and Koma have publicly expressed their support.

Moore’s former This Is Us co-star Sterling K. Brown also spoke about her situation last month, saying she’s “very much in the midst of it all” and taking it “one day at a time.”

It’s been a challenging few weeks, to say the least. Rebuilding a home and a life after a wildfire is never quick or easy. And as this incident shows, even something as small as a package delivery can add to the emotional toll.
