A Public Separation Gets Even More Public
Richards, 56, opened up about her decision during a recent episode of RHOBH. The shift in her bio came after Umansky, 54, was spotted getting cozy with Nikita Kahn in Mykonos in July 2024. For Richards, the images were a breaking point.
“I am not going to be sitting here having ‘wife’ on my Instagram bio with him running around with people. Why would I?” she said, according to People.
For a while, she had hesitated to make any major changes to her online presence, clinging to the familiarity of her married identity. But once the photos surfaced, things felt different.
“In the past, it’s been hard for me to think about taking ‘wife’ off my bio or my married last name, but the picture changed that for me,” she admitted.
Umansky Made His Own Changes First
As it turns out, Richards wasn’t the first to edit her social media presence. She pointed out during the episode that Umansky had already removed any mention of being a husband from his bio.
“He took ‘husband and father’ off his bio and just put ‘CEO of The Agency,’” she told her sister, Kathy Hilton.
Seeing that only confirmed her own decision. “Why am I going to have that on there still after seeing that? I feel stupid. You know what I mean?”
Richards’ move is symbolic of her transition away from the marriage, even if the legal side remains unresolved. The couple, who tied the knot in 1996, have been separated since summer 2023 but have yet to file for divorce.
“I Don’t Care Who She Is”
When Hilton encouraged her sister to find out more about the woman Umansky was photographed with, Richards made it clear she wasn’t interested.
“It doesn’t matter, I don’t even care. I don’t want to dig, I don’t care. I don’t care who she is,” she said. “[All I care] about is, right now, I need to move on.”
But while she publicly downplayed the impact, she did acknowledge the sting of seeing her estranged husband with someone else.
“Mau did text an apology,” she revealed in a conversation with Dorit Kemsley. However, she wasn’t entirely satisfied with his actions. She added that he should have been more discreet, considering their history and the public nature of their split.
A New Bio, A New Chapter
Richards’ Instagram bio now reflects her shift away from the marriage. Gone is “wife,” replaced with a focus on her own identity and career. Her current bio reads:
“Mom, actor, author, producer, animal lover, a RHOBH, CAA.”
She elaborated on the decision during the RHOBH After Show, explaining that it was a deliberate step forward.
“I knew that in me doing that people would talk about it because everything is being looked at through a magnifying glass,” she said. “So I thought well this is not just a little step—I know people are going to talk about it, so it’s actually a bigger step because it’s also letting people know I am also moving on.”
While Richards is making moves to redefine herself post-separation, Umansky has continued to make headlines for his dating life. Since their split, he has been seen with multiple women, including model Klaudia K in Aspen in December 2024.
Richards, on the other hand, has been the subject of romance rumors with country singer Morgan Wade, though she has denied anything more than a close friendship.
