Kroger, a major U.S. supermarket chain, has issued multiple recalls for various food products across at least 15 states. The recalls stem from serious safety concerns, including potential contamination with foreign objects like plastic and pen pieces, as well as choking hazards posed by a popular baby food item. These actions affect not only Kroger stores but also their numerous subsidiaries, impacting customers nationwide.
Hummus Pulled in Four States over Plastic Fears
Subsidiary stores Fred Meyers and QFC, located in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington, have removed twelve different types of King Harvest hummus from their shelves. The recall was initiated on February 5, 2025, due to the potential presence of plastic fragments in the 10 oz tubs. This is not the first time the brand has faced this issue, following a similar recall in September 2024.
The recall affects a wide range of the brand’s hummus products. Customers who have purchased any of the following items are urged to check their refrigerators:
- King Harvest Lemon Hummus, 10 oz
- King Harvest Hummus Classic, 10 oz
- King Harvest Roasted Garlic Hummus, 10 oz
- King Harvest Toasted Onion Hummus, 10 oz
- King Harvest Chipotle Hummus, 10 oz

- King Harvest Jalapeño Hummus, 10 oz
- King Harvest Balsamic Hummus, 10 oz

Kroger is advising customers not to eat the hummus and to return it for a complete refund. So far, King Harvest has not provided a public comment on the matter.
Sausage Recall in Texas and Louisiana Due to Pen Contamination
In Texas and Louisiana, Kroger has recalled three sausage products from the brand DJs Boudain. The recall, announced on February 1, was prompted by concerns that the sausages may be contaminated with pieces of a pen.
This action is part of a much larger recall directed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The USDA has called for the removal of approximately 17,720 pounds of boudain sausage links from stores across Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. The USDA has classified this as a necessary safety measure to prevent potential health risks to consumers. The specific products recalled at Kroger are:
- DJs Boudain Hot Jalapeño Boudain, 12 oz
- DJs Boudain – Boudain Sausage, 24 oz
- DJs Boudain – Boudain Sausage, 16 oz
Like King Harvest, DJs Boudain has not yet released a public statement regarding the contamination issue.
Nationwide Gerber Recall After Choking Incidents
A significant recall affecting teething children involves two Gerber products sold at Kroger and its subsidiary stores in 13 states. The Gerber Soothe N Chew Teething Sticks in Banana and Strawberry Apple flavors have been pulled due to a serious choking hazard.
The recall was initiated after the company received several complaints from consumers about choking incidents. In its official statement, Gerber confirmed, “To date, one emergency room visit has been reported to the firm.” The company has since apologized for the concern this has caused parents and caregivers. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is supporting the recall to prevent any further incidents. This recall applies to Kroger and its many subsidiary stores, including Dillons, King Soopers, Fred Meyer, Ralphs, and QFC.

If you have bought any of the recalled hummus, sausage, or teething products, consumer safety officials and Kroger advise you to take immediate action. It is crucial to follow these steps to ensure your family’s safety.

- Check the product details to confirm if it matches the recalled items.
- Return the product to the store where you purchased it to receive a full refund.
- If you have more questions, you can contact the respective brands for more information.
Kroger has stated that it is actively monitoring the situation and is committed to ensuring the safety of the products on its shelves.
