The Chrisley family’s legal troubles continue to unfold, and this time, Savannah Chrisley is shining a light on an unexpected consequence—her parents, Todd and Julie Chrisley, have not spoken to each other since they entered prison in January 2023.
A Family Separated by the System
Savannah, 27, recently shared the distressing update in an interview, revealing that her parents, who have been together for nearly 30 years, have been unable to communicate for the past two years.
“They don’t get to speak,” she said. “They’ve never gone a day without each other, and now it’s been two years. That should never happen.”
Prison regulations often make communication between inmates difficult, but for Savannah, the separation highlights a larger issue—what she sees as a system that claims to keep families together yet enforces extreme isolation.
Allegations of Mail Tampering and Interference
Beyond the lack of direct communication, Savannah accuses the prison system of making it “almost impossible” for inmates to stay connected with loved ones. She has raised concerns about interference with emails, mail fraud, and even cases of mail theft at her father’s facility.
“They don’t make anything easy,” she said. “There was mail theft and fraud at my dad’s facility that I’m still not going to allow that person to get away with.”
The Bureau of Prisons has not publicly responded to these claims, but allegations of mail delays and monitoring are not uncommon in federal facilities.
A Legal Battle That’s Far From Over
Todd and Julie Chrisley were sentenced in 2022 after being convicted of wire fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud, and conspiracy to defraud the United States. Todd initially received a 12-year sentence, while Julie was sentenced to seven years.
Their sentences were later reduced, with Todd’s time cut by two years and Julie’s by 14 months. However, Savannah remains determined to fight for further reductions, pushing for appeals and advocating for prison reform.
The Loss of a Prison Chaplaincy Role
Todd Chrisley’s attorney, Jay Surgent, has also spoken out about what he claims is an unjust decision by prison officials to remove Todd from his volunteer role as an assistant to the chaplain at Federal Prison Camp Pensacola.
“He was helping oversee religious services for multiple faiths, including Christian, Jewish, and Muslim services,” Surgent said. “No real reason was provided for his removal.”
Despite the setback, Surgent says Todd Chrisley remains hopeful that his sentence could be further reduced.
The Future of the Chrisley Family
While Todd and Julie Chrisley serve their sentences, Savannah has stepped into a new role as an outspoken advocate for prison reform.
She has used her platform to highlight what she believes are flaws in the system, from limiting inmate communication to what she describes as unfair disciplinary actions. Whether her efforts will lead to policy changes—or even a potential reexamination of her parents’ case—remains to be seen.
For now, the Chrisleys remain separated, their family’s future uncertain as they continue to fight their legal battles from behind bars.
