Kroger Recalls Hummus, Sausage and Baby Food Over Safety Fears

Kroger has issued a widespread recall for several food products, including hummus, sausage, and baby food, across at least 15 states due to serious safety concerns. The recalls involve potential contamination with plastic and metal, as well as a choking hazard, affecting Kroger and its numerous subsidiary stores. Consumers are being urged to check their refrigerators and pantries for the affected items.

Plastic Fragments Found in King Harvest Hummus

Two of Kroger’s subsidiary chains, Fred Meyer and QFC, have recalled 12 varieties of King Harvest hummus. The recall, announced on February 5, 2025, affects stores in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. The action was taken after a defect in the plastic tubs was discovered, which could lead to plastic pieces contaminating the hummus.

This is not the first time King Harvest has faced such an issue. A similar recall for plastic contamination occurred in September 2024, raising questions about the company’s packaging quality control. Consumers are strongly advised not to eat any of these products to avoid potential injury.

The specific products recalled are all 10 oz tubs and include:

  • King Harvest Lemon Hummus
  • King Harvest Classic Hummus
  • King Harvest Roasted Garlic Hummus
  • King Harvest Toasted Onion Hummus
  • King Harvest Chipotle Hummus
  • King Harvest Spinach Hummus
  • King Harvest Black Olive Hummus
  • King Harvest Sesame Hummus
  • King Harvest Jalapeño Hummus
  • King Harvest Balsamic Hummus
  • King Harvest Sun-Dried Tomato Hummus
  • King Harvest Roasted Pepper Hummus

King Harvest has not yet responded to requests for a comment on the recurring issue.

Pen Pieces May Be in DJs Boudain Sausage

In Texas and Louisiana, a different kind of foreign object risk has led to a recall. Kroger has removed DJs Boudain sausage products from its stores over fears that some packages might contain pieces of a pen. This recall, which began on February 1, 2025, is part of a larger USDA action involving nearly 17,720 pounds of boudain sausage links.

The potential presence of metal fragments poses a significant health risk if ingested. The USDA has classified this as a high-risk situation, and consumers should immediately dispose of the product or return it.

Choking Hazard Prompts Gerber Teething Stick Recall

A nationwide recall has been issued for two Gerber teething stick products after reports of choking incidents. The recall impacts Kroger and its many subsidiaries across the country, including Dillons, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, and QFC, among others. The recall was initiated after at least one child required an emergency room visit.

The products, Gerber Soothe N Chew Teething Sticks in Banana and Strawberry Apple flavors, are popular items for teething infants. In a statement, Gerber acknowledged the consumer complaints and apologized for the concern this has caused parents and caregivers. The company stressed its commitment to infant safety and is working with the FDA on the recall.

What Consumers Should Do with Recalled Products

Kroger is advising all customers who have purchased any of the recalled items to stop using them immediately. The products should not be consumed under any circumstances. Customers can return the items to the place of purchase for a full refund.
